The Incessant Ranting of an old Tower
As I am sure many of you have already noticed, the new forum code by itself in this site is not nearly as powerful as the one that was on TowTalk. I was going to upgrade it to a full blown PHPBB forum with all the bells and whistles but something made me change my mind.
This site is about community involvement. It is designed so each part of it complements the other parts. If one part stands out above the rest, then the members here will tend to be drawn to that part at the expense of the rest of the community. On this site, you have several ways to post information. You can use the wall (like what facebook has) or you can create a Blog like I've done here or you can make a post in the forums or even create a newsworthy article that the administration can post for you.
If you want to start a lengthy discussion about a particular topic, then the forum is the place to do that. If you want to post about topics you have some expertise in such as I am doing here about how this site is designed to operate, Or a bio on yourself and how you fit into the towing community, then you would add an article to your Blogosphere. In the blog section, you can elect to allow or not allow comments by users that read them. Comments in the blogs are limited in size because they are designed for quick comments about the topic being talked about or questions a reader may have about the content and not for lengthy discussions.
In any case. Much of your early time here should be spent just looking around. You will find hundreds of new ways to do things that are far better than anything we had in the past. I will be doing a blog post in the near future on our sites integration with your facebook accounts. I think you will find it interesting.
