About Us
My name is Big Bill Weihrouch (pronounced Why-Rock) aka SkyForum and TowNation is my house. Originally conceived and started back in Aug 2005 as TowTalk.net, the idea was to build a community that was completely supportive of the industry I love and work in every day and that I could share with others of the same mindset. I spent a lot of time on other towing & recovery forums and none of them seemed to suit my needs of a place where I could discuss and learn about my industry without being constantly under attack. It seemed they all had one thing in common, Total chaos & a lack of competent management. They had completely lost site of the goal and had all turned into little more than child care centers.
TowNation is designed as a Nation filled with different 'States'. Because of that, it seems to grow a little slower. Don't be fooled. The content within TowNation will be far more advanced than any other towing & recovery site. The main reason is members here are not worried about being attacked or ridiculed for their ideas and approaches. This results in the best possible solutions being reached for each question or comment.
Management styles differ here so much that we have only banned one member since TowTalk's inception. That ban happened so early (within weeks of bringing the site online) that upon retrospect, I could have probably avoided it. The jury is out as to why this site completely lacks any of these problems but the general concensus is there is a mutual level of respect shown between members as they strive to better their companies and their positions within this industry.
TowNation is not pay for play. You are recognized for whom you are be it an operator, vendor or company owner. You are not rewarded for having more posts than the other guy nor are you rewarded for your actual content. Everyone here is equal no matter how much or how little you participate. Members of the general public can join our site as a standard member but their access is severally restricted. This is by design and will help protect us a little from those that do not have an understanding of what we do.
This new site will be selling paid advertising slots and banners. We needed to rethink this policy as the site grew because to be perfectly honest, it was getting too expensive for me to be the sole supporter. Don't worry, the original mantra still exists and paid advertisers will never have any say as to how we run our community. Advertisers that want to place their ads within our community will only be allowed after they have been approved by the ranking members for content and product reliability.
